George Russell finished 4th in the Miami Grand Prix, and this result pleased him on the one hand, because he started from 6th, on the other hand, he understands that the Mercedes team still has a lot of work to do to improve the speed of the car.
George Russell (4th): “The mood is great, because we haven’t raced this confidently for a long time, when we managed to overtake excellently, the pace was relatively high and I was comfortable behind the wheel. Of course I would like to finish three positions higher, but we know our real capabilities and 4th place is the maximum that can be expected.
But today is a good day and now we have to analyze everything together with the team to decide how to proceed. We have high hopes for the next stage in Imola, because today we lost more than thirty seconds on the leaders and even Fernando Alonso lost quite a bit.
Of course, the novelties that the team is preparing for Imola will not be able to completely change the situation, but I would like to hope that this will be a step in the right direction, because now the car is behaving somewhat unpredictably on track. Let’s hope that the effectiveness of the new products will exceed our expectations, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
Lewis Hamilton (6e): “It is difficult for me to evaluate the chosen tactic, I do not know if it was optimal, but I do not exclude that it was. It wasn’t easy after the start because I was in a tight group of cars and we all had the use of the DRS system, so I couldn’t even overtake the Williams. On straight lines, their car is capable of good speed, so it’s not easy to get ahead of them.
But after the pit stop, when I switched to hard tyres, I was able to really attack and somewhere in the middle of the race the car seemed to come to life, so I’m very happy to finish sixth. after starting from 13th position. Unfortunately we started so far from pole, but I still enjoyed it when I got to the front.
The duels with rivals were interesting and we earned a lot of points for Mercedes. So thank you everyone, because the team continues to work hard and although we are not where we should be, morale is still very high.
