Lando Norris: The car was very slow in Miami

In Miami, Lando Norris finished seventeenth for the third time of the season. The McLaren driver said the result wasn’t due to Nick de Vries crashing into him at the start – even if the car hadn’t suffered any damage, the MCL60’s pace wouldn’t have been enough to go for points last weekend to fight.

Lando Norris: “Even if the car had not suffered any damage at the start, it would not have fundamentally changed the result. I don’t know how bad the damage was, but the lack of speed has nothing to do with it. The car was just really slow.

I kept racing in case something happened. The odds were slim, but you never know how events will develop, so it’s worth staying on track just in case. There’s no point in giving up.

We don’t like the Miami track, we don’t like long corners, we don’t like the temperature and the surface. It involves many different aspects. Moreover, none of the opponents suffered from speed this weekend. Maybe only AlphaTauri had a slow car, while everyone else drove very fast. Alfa Romeo and Haas were very fast, Alpine was also faster than us.

That’s why I wouldn’t say we underperformed in Miami than we could. It’s just that the rest have taken a big step forward and our car didn’t match the characteristics of the track. It’s the same thing I’ve been talking about lately.”
