At Imola, Mercedes will bring an updated car with a new front suspension, more traditional side pontoons and a new floor. Everyone in the team is waiting for progress on track, but Toto Wolff is cautious about his predictions.
Toto Wolff: “We will bring a lot of updates – new suspension, bodywork and some other details, but you have to be careful with expectations – in fifteen years of working in Formula 1 I have never seen new items that allow me to play half a second on a circle, and I highly doubt it will happen now.
I’m really looking forward to taking some of the unknowns out of the equation that describe our car’s issues, we can move on to a more stable platform that will allow us to move forward.
On the simulator, the novelties prepared by us give a good increase in speed, but let’s see how everything goes on the real track. It is important to achieve more downforce and better mechanics, but we have to get serious about this.
We want to understand the direction we need to take in developing next year’s car, what factors are preventing us from achieving the desired results this season and how to avoid them in the future.
