Speaking to reporters at the traditional press breakfast on Wednesday, Madrid mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida said negotiations over holding a future Formula 1 race in the Spanish capital are underway, although he refrained from evaluating the likelihood of this project.
“The negotiations about holding the Grand Prix in Madrid are more or less going well,” said the mayor. “A Formula 1 race is a high-profile event and cities are judged on their ability to attract such events. Negotiations have been going on for several months now by the leadership of the IFEMA complex, although I prefer not to speculate on the possible timing of their completion and will not estimate the chances of success.
We are talking about the fact that Jose Vincente de los Mosos, director of IFEMA, is in periodic contact with Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula 1, and a preliminary request has already been sent to the leadership of the championship about the possibility of holding the race hold. At the same time, no specific dates are mentioned, but it is known that the Spanish Grand Prix will be held on the Barcelona circuit until 2026.
In April, we quoted Izabel Diaz Ayuso, president of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, who is convinced that the project can be realized and that she has an optimistic attitude, but urged patience.
