During the Miami race, Williams asked Alex Albon to take care of the tyres, which upset the Thai racer – he believes that with a slow car there is still nothing to lose.
Alex Albon: “At that time, when the team asked me to look at the rubber, we were not overtaking anyone. One could attack to try to get ahead or to stay behind. In my opinion, it’s better to attack and then face the consequences than fall behind and finish last – so I told the team I disagreed with their proposal.
Unfortunately, our car does not have enough speed, so we are forced to act differently from rivals, experiment in some way. Our car is one of the slowest, ninth or tenth fastest. We try to get the most out of it, but on tracks where the tires overheat, like in Miami, our weaknesses are very noticeable.
We did a great job in qualifying and in the race we went as fast as the car allowed. Hopefully the next tracks will suit us better.”
