At the start of the year, Daniel Ricciardo returned to Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver. An Australian racer is working on a simulator, but has yet to get behind the wheel of a real RB19 car. Daniel said he will take part in Pirelli tire tests in July, where he will test the 2023 car for the first time.
Daniel Ricciardo: “I’ve been working on the simulator, but I won’t be driving the RB19 until July in the Pirelli tire tests after the race at Silverstone. Maybe I’ll work on the tests in Monza in September. In a few months I will at least be able to assess the 2023 car.
I am happy to get behind the wheel of a fast car that I already know from my work on the simulator. I will try to remind the team that I had great successes once and I can still do a fast lap.
I’m happy with how I’m doing this season. Does this mean I’ll be happy as a third pilot for the next two or three years? Probably not, but I think I did the right thing this year.
Now I want to get behind the wheel again next year because I feel like I have some unfinished business. I am aware of the situation and stay prepared in case something happens.”
