Nick de Vries’ poor performance in the first races of the season sparked rumors that the Dutch driver could soon lose his place in AlphaTauri. After the race in Miami, reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing visited the team’s base in Faenza and went over the seat fit.
The team did not comment in any way on Daniel’s visit, but the Italian edition of Automoto reports that the Australian rider will start the next stage in Imola, replacing Nick de Vries, who will be transferred to the position from reservationist.
According to other Italian sources, however, there is no question of replacing de Vries with Riccardo at Imola. Reportedly, Helmut Marko gave Nick three more races (at Imola, Monaco and Barcelona) to prove himself. And if de Vries’ results do not improve during this time, Ricciardo will replace him at the Canadian Grand Prix in mid-June.
