George Russell on the position of riders in relation to DRS

In recent stages, the FIA has reduced the length of the DRS zones, directly reducing the number of overtakes. GPDA Pilots Union director George Russell said all riders have the same view on this.

George Russell: “I respect the FIA’s position that it is very difficult to change anything in Formula 1, but there are other factors that need to be taken into account.

In Miami, the length of the DRS zone was reduced by 75 meters – with a car length of three to four meters, this distance can determine whether or not overtaking takes place.

All 20 drivers preferred that overtaking with DRS was neither too easy nor too difficult. Overtaking too easily makes the race more spectacular, too difficult – boring, so it’s better to play it safe here.

I communicate with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, but not particularly on sports issues, it is clear that the decisions are made by Nicolas Tombasis and Steve Nielsen. Relations with them are gradually improving, everyone agrees that we must work together to achieve the best for our sport.
