Teams will test new tires during the Spanish Grand Prix

We have already mentioned that Pirelli will present new tires for the dry track at the British Grand Prix in July. The changed slick specifications were originally planned for use in the 2024 season, but given the increased stress on the tires due to high speeds and more downforce, Pirelli decided to switch to new tires this season.

Teams can evaluate the new items at the beginning of the summer at the Spanish Grand Prix. During Friday’s practice in Barcelona, each rider will be given two additional sets of new tires to test and evaluate.

Mario Isola, Head of Pirelli Racing: “In the first races of the season we have seen how much faster the 2023 cars are compared to last year. This was due to the extraordinary pace of development of all ten teams.

In Miami, for example, the pole time was almost two seconds faster than last year. We saw the same level of progress in previous races.

When performing product simulations, we strive not only to create tires that meet the speed characteristics specified by customers, but also to identify potential problems in order to respond to them quickly. The new tire specifications incorporate materials developed for the 2024 season and will make the tires more stable without affecting their performance and handling on the track.

To ensure that all teams can test the new design on a level playing field, Pirelli will supply two additional sets of tires per car in the first and second sessions of the Spanish Grand Prix on Friday.”
