Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Helmut Marko has responded to rumors that Nick de Vries could be fired from AlphaTauri. The Austrian specialist confirmed that he was dissatisfied with the Dutch rider’s results, but he still has time to rectify the situation.
Helmut Marko: Nothing will happen in the next three races. We have spoken with De Vries and he agrees with our assessment that he needs to improve. The gap to partner Yuki Tsunoda, who does an excellent job, is too great. In football terms, Nick got a yellow card, but not a red one yet. If he adds, the replacement theme will disappear by itself.
At worst, we turn to our young talent pool. I’m talking specifically about Liam Lawson and Ayume Iwas. There is no mention of Riccardo.
Marco added that he is not considering Mick Schumacher for AlphaTauri: “He is a Mercedes driver and is not in our plans. Accordingly, Toto Wolff is responsible for him.”
Helmut Marko remembered the Mercedes reserve driver for a reason. The German press writes that Toto Wolff is actively looking for a place for Mick. Reportedly, he had already suggested to Williams head James Vowles to replace Logan Sargent with Meek, without waiting for the end of the season. In any case, if the replacement takes place, it will be after a series of construction phases, which will begin next week in Imola.
