Fallows: This year’s results are just the beginning

Aston Martin F1 Technical Director Dan Fallows spoke about his work, the team’s progress and the challenges it faces.

Dan Fallows: “I am responsible for all technical functions of the team, including the development of the car, the aerodynamics, the entire cycle from creation to the production phase, after which it enters races. I think Lawrence Stroll is pleased with our progress and we hope that this progress will continue.

He always tells us, “We’re on a long-term project here.” He sees that the team will be able to compete for race and championship victories in the future, and this year we are already in the first phase of this road thanks to the AMR23. But we still don’t consider this a real success. This is all great, but we have to get over it.

At my current job, I have to go to races more often than I used to, and to some extent this has an impact, because I spend less time at home and less time with my family. But this requires a huge effort from the racing team, which should run 23 races this year. First of all, it is difficult for employees with families. But personally I like to go to the races to see how the team works, how the car shows itself.

In the school my children attend, of course, there are boys whose parents love Formula 1, read the motorsport press, follow events on social networks, and they like to ask me questions about the team’s affairs, how we have made progress and I enjoy talking about these topics.

I think my kids are a little confused by all this, but it’s okay. They are not so much interested in Formula 1, although I do not exclude that they will be interested in the future, who knows. My son sometimes watches races and this year we are going to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone as a family.

The youngest daughter shows no interest in Formula 1 yet, so I’m curious about her reaction. Although she is a little nervous because she has to race all day. But I hope that one day my children will really get involved in motor racing.

Personally, I’ve always wanted to be an engineer, I’ve always wanted to work in areas where you have to work really fast and get results. I’ve loved Formula 1 since I was a kid, and even if I didn’t work in motorsport, I’d definitely remain a fan and watch the races. So I want to thank all the Aston Martin fans for their support! Our team is growing and developing rapidly, but the army of its fans is also growing, which is very nice to see. I hope that in the future we can please everyone with great results!”
