Three McLaren drivers on the podium in Indianapolis

Alex Palow won the race on the road version of the Indianapolis track, earning his first win of the season. On the one hand, he plays in IndyCar for the Chip Ganassi Racing team, on the other hand, he will fulfill the duties of one of McLaren’s reserve drivers in Formula 1 in 2023.

And the remaining two steps of the podium were occupied by Arrow McLaren drivers Pato O’Ward and Alex Rossi, so we can say that the entire top three are made up of McLaren drivers.

Palow started third but took the lead on the first lap and eventually his #10 Honda-powered car crossed the line 16.8 seconds ahead of O’Ward’s Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.

“To be honest, from the very first practice we knew we had a fast car,” said the race winner. – All weekend she worked just great – not a car, but a rocket! The team did a great job too and I just had to get the job done.”

Thanks to this success, Palou – incidentally the 2021 IndyCar champion – led the individual standings of the series. The second line, which brought him just seven points, is occupied by Pato O’Ward, who finished second for the third time this season: the Mexican shows an enviable stability, but until he manages to climb a step higher.

“Congratulations to Alex and his team, they were very strong today! he said after the finish. “But the Arrow McLaren drivers finished second, third and fifth, which is also a phenomenal result. The team prepared a great car for us and you can say we had our own race, we fought against each other.

I tried to overtake Alex but he was going really fast so in the end I just tried to save the tires and get to the finish.

Alex Rossi’s third-place finish is his best so far this year as he moved to Arrow McLaren, but his IndyCar highlight is winning the legendary Indy 500, which he won in 2016.

Practice for this year’s race will begin on Tuesday, then qualifying will take place on May 20-21 and the race will take place on the last Sunday in May, which will be held for the 107th time in 2023.
