Sebastian Vettel, retired, is spending time with his family this year away from the hustle and bustle of the paddock and seems to be enjoying the chance to live in peace. However, the four-time world champion is willing to admit that he still misses Formula 1.
“So far I am quite happy with the decision made and everything suits me. Although I especially miss racing, the competition and the emotional stress that comes with it,” Sebastian shared in an interview with Bild am Sonntag.
Vettel will once again drive historic cars from his own collection at the traditional Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, but he says that cannot replace the thrills he has become accustomed to over 17 seasons in Formula 1.
“Goodwood isn’t a real race track, but it’s nice to be behind the wheel again,” he emphasised. But there is no question of a return to the paddock yet: “In the beginning it was somehow strange that I was no longer there, but gradually I got used to it and I follow Formula 1 from the outside with great interest. I am very happy with the success of Aston Martin, my former team, because we have also worked hard for this in recent years. And it’s great that she’s already won a few trophies.”
Rumors that he may return to Formula 1 in the near future, but in a different capacity, Sebastian did not comment. One of the recent versions had to do with the fact that Vettel could already replace 80-year-old Helmut Marko this year and become a motorsport advisor to Red Bull Racing.
