Günter Steiner, Haas F1 Team Principal, spoke about the challenges she faces this year and beyond, highlighting that one day she will be able to compete for victories.
Q: How would you summarize the results of the Miami Grand Prix, the first home race for your team this season?
Gunter Steiner: It was the busiest weekend ever for the Haas F1 Team. It went really well anyway, it seems everyone is happy. The organizers of the Miami Grand Prix put on an interesting show for the fans, for the teams, and we earned a point.
Question: For the stage in Miami, the team prepared the first novelties of this season, first of all a new underside of the car. What can be said about its effectiveness and what further steps does the equipment modernization program entail?
Gunter Steiner: The novelties presented in Miami work, so the whole team deserves praise. The process of modernization continues, but we do not plan to introduce new items in entire complexes, but do it gradually. We will bring something to Imola, but if we find an effective solution while improving the chassis, we will definitely implement it.
Q: There is the sixth round of the season, the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna, and this will be the 150th race for Haas F1, and the first was in 2016. Behind seven full seasons already – what memories of this period do you find liveliest? And what does it mean to you to lead this team?
Gunter Steiner: I especially remember our very first race in Melbourne in 2016, because many thought we wouldn’t be able to start at all. But we could and still do participate in the World Cup – this makes me proud of our whole team.
We scored points in our debut race, which is rare in Formula 1 history. It is very important to me that we started our project from scratch. Many people dream of starting a new team, and I did it thanks to Gene Haas, who enabled us to carry out this project. At the moment Haas F1 is in a good position, we are just trying to get stronger and stronger and we will succeed.
Q: What are the challenges the team faces now and in the near future?
Gunter Steiner: The goal for this year is clear: to rise to a higher place in the Constructors’ Championship, and in the future, at some point in our history, we want to fight for victories. I don’t know how soon it will happen, and I won’t say it’s possible this season or next season, but one day Haas will be able to win.
