Nico Hulkenberg has never driven a Formula 1 car at Imola, so German driver Haas is preparing with particular interest for the upcoming Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
Question: In Miami, it was again confirmed that the VF-23 is quite a competitive machine, and the work of technical innovations made a positive impression. How do you evaluate the results of the previous phase?
Nico Hulkenberg: The upgraded bottom end already worked pretty well in Miami, and now it all needs to be optimized on a track with more grip. In addition, we will present new innovations in Imola, so I am confidently preparing for the coming weekend.
Q: The European part of the season starts in Italy, but you’ve never raced at the Imola circuit. What do you think of the track named after Enzo and Dino Ferrari, and are you excited about the upcoming series of three races in a row?
Nico Hulkenberg: After so many long journeys, I am glad that we now have to cover shorter distances. Pre-season is the first series of three races in a row and Imola is of course a historic circuit and holds a special place on the Formula 1 calendar.
I am very happy to be able to drive on this circuit for the first time, because it is always fun to drive on the simulator. Let’s see what surprises the weather has in store for us in the coming days.
Q: The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is the 150th race in the team’s history and for you it will be the sixth in its composition. What excites you most about Haas and what does it mean to you to be a Haas driver?
Nico Hulkenberg: Compared to other championship teams, Haas F1 is younger and more modest in stature. We have a slightly different approach to doing business and after the first five races I can say with confidence that everyone on the team is really passionate about their work, there is always a family atmosphere here.
You can see that the work gives people pleasure this season, so in our 150th Grand Prix we will try to fight for a high result.
