In Baku, Mercedes head Toto Wolff said the team cannot compete for victories with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari at the moment. Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher still hopes that Mercedes can intervene in the battle for the title this season.
Ralf Schumacher: “Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton talked recently about working on new products, which should presumably help regain a second on the circle. If this doesn’t happen then it will be difficult for them, but I hope Mercedes can add. It’s more interesting to see the battle of the three teams.”
Ralph commented on Lewis Hamilton’s back pain after finishing the last race: “I think the point is that Lewis has a steeper landing in the car compared to his partner. He’s also a few years older than George Russell, although I don’t think that makes any difference. Some people say Lewis’s motivation has diminished but I don’t think so, although Russell’s speed does spoil Lewis’s mood of course.
Speaking of the power relations at the Canadian Grand Prix, Ralf Schumacher preferred Red Bull Racing: “Their car is better in terms of aerodynamic efficiency. They may have a hard time qualifying again, but that won’t be a problem, because in Canada you can overtake.”
