Alpine rider Esteban Ocon hopes to build on the success of the Miami race by scoring points at Imola…
Q: How were the two weeks after the race in Miami?
Esteban Ocon: After the failure in Baku, we understood that we had to move on, and in Miami we took our chance. We showed good pace and on Sunday we earned points with two cars.
While we are not in the shape we want to be, there are early signs that we can compete with the top teams to fight for higher positions. The next series of three races in a row will be a good test for us – we have to show what we are capable of.
The past few weeks have been very busy. From Miami, we traveled to Bristol, where we unveiled the A290_β, a 100% electric urban sports car that will be on sale next year. Then, at the base in Viry, I watched the finals of the “Concours d’Excellence Mecanique”, where young Frenchmen demonstrated their skills in auto mechanics. I took part in the Pirelli tests at Paul Ricard and worked on the simulator at Enstone. We’ve had a few practice sessions and briefings and are well prepared for the weekend.
Q: What do you expect from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix?
Esteban Ocon: I have always enjoyed racing in Italy. I played there for many years in the youth series and I think back fondly on that time.
Imola is a historic circuit with a complex configuration that riders love. The track is narrow, it’s hard to overtake, so qualifying and strategy are essential. Last year we didn’t earn any points at this stage and now we want to fix that. We have to do our best in practice to prepare for qualifying to have the best chance of points on Sunday.
