Dan Fallows: There is no evidence that overtaking has become more difficult

After the past five stages, many riders noticed that it became more difficult to overtake this year, which can be explained by the reduction in the number of DRS zones and the characteristics of the cars, which made it difficult to chase rivals at close range.

However, Aston Martin technical director Dan Fallows says he has not seen any telemetry to show that overtaking has actually become more difficult.

“I’ve heard similar talk, but I haven’t seen any data that would indicate it’s become more difficult to overtake,” Racingnews365 quoted Fallows. – The drivers have their own opinion on this matter, but we have all seen that driving depends on the characteristics of a particular car – this is the reason for the differences.

Already a few races behind us, but I think it’s too early to talk about the difficulty of overtaking. We heard similar conversations in Baku, but there were no particular problems in the previous stages.

Overtaking opportunities certainly depend on the characteristics of the track. The most striking example is Monaco. Everyone knows in advance that there are circuits where the most attention should be paid to preparing the car for qualifying, as overtaking opportunities in the race are limited. During the season we will be on circuits that are easier to overtake and harder to overtake.”
