The holding of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola this weekend is in jeopardy due to severe flooding in the region. Formula 1 management is considering different scenarios for the development of the situation, including the cancellation of the stage.
On Tuesday, all personnel had to leave the circuit in Imola. It was assumed that the situation would improve on Wednesday and preparations for the Grand Prix would continue on track, as of Wednesday morning the ban is still in place and no team members are on track. The Formula 1 paddock was not affected by the flooding, but some parts of the track were flooded, as was the paddock of the supporting races.
Many access roads are blocked near the autodrome and local authorities have no answer as to whether they will be opened in the coming days. If the stage takes place, a collapse of the transport may occur due to the overlaps at the autodrome entrances.
Formula 1 officials are considering options to shorten the weekend format, move the Imola round to another date this season or cancel the race.
The final decision on the fate of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix has not yet been made, but with preparation time running out, the Formula 1 announcement is expected on Wednesday afternoon.
