Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy, hopes that the cancellation of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend will result in a one-year contract extension for the Imola race, as was the case with the cancellation of the stages due to Covid -19.
The current contract expires in 2025, Damiani thinks the race canceled this year can take place in 2026.
Angelo Sticchi Damiani: “I am deeply saddened by what is happening in Emilia-Romagna. In such a dramatic situation, the cancellation of the stage was inevitable. Given the tight schedule this season, we can’t expect a race later this year, but I hope it will be in 2026.
The Automobile Club of Italy extends its condolences to those who mourn the loss of their loved ones or are forced to leave their homes during these hours. We are grateful to the state and regional authorities, law enforcement and civil protection services, who are doing everything possible in these difficult days to help the population and ensure the security of the region.
We thank the more than 3,000 volunteers who came to Imola to organize and make the Grand Prix possible.”
