McLaren Racing boss Zack Brown is calling for budget caps to be changed so teams can be more sustainable in their operations.
On Thursday, McLaren released its 2022 sustainability report, reporting a 9% reduction in air travel emissions over two years, switching to LED-based lighting and eliminating single-use plastics. But all of these expenses are subject to general budget constraints, meaning something else has to be sacrificed. Zach Brown thinks it’s wrong.
Zach Brown: “We are convinced of the need to control costs and do not want to undermine its integrity, but existing regulations create unintended barriers when it comes to investing in sustainable development.
Our sport needs a clear legal framework with financial, technical and sporting rules to innovate and invest in sustainability by sharing experiences and ideas in this area. Only full cooperation makes it possible to realize significant changes.”
