Nick de Vries told on social networks the story he recently got into on his way to Faenza. Severe flooding prevented the AlphaTauri racer from reaching the team’s base and was forced to spend the night in a small village with a single hotel that had run out of rooms.
Continuing Nick’s story: “Tuesday evening at 11:30pm I drove to Faenza to attend a marketing event at the team’s base on Wednesday. It was raining very hard, Faenza was already under water by then and I couldn’t get to my hotel. It was also impossible to return to the highway.
I had to stay in a small village where there was only one hotel with no available rooms. Fortunately, McLaren engineers had checked into this hotel earlier and Fraser, who is in charge of the front jack in the team, was kind enough to give me his number.
The next morning, the hotel lobby was filled with people who had to leave their homes for the night. After Formula 1 announced the cancellation of the race, I had only one option to return home – via Florence.
After an adventurous trip through the mountains and thanks to the help of the local population and the authorities of several villages, I finally arrived home safely. Thank you to everyone who helped me.”
