This season, when the Formula 1 teams switched to a new generation of cars, the balance of power between the drivers has changed significantly. For example, Lewis Hamilton is inferior to George Russell, his young Mercedes partner, in Red Bull Racing Sergio Perez is already overtaking Max Verstappen and in Ferrari Carlos Sainz, on the contrary, has not yet managed to reach the level of Charles. Leclerc was often in front of him in the second half of last year.
However, Sainz is confident that the picture will change again soon: “Hopefully these changes will no longer be noticeable and as the riders adapt to the machines, this difference will narrow. But at the beginning of the year, due to the fact that there are almost no tests in Formula 1, it was very difficult to understand the characteristics of the new cars.
It is quite normal that there are some differences between the partners, the car fits someone more, someone less, someone adapts faster, etc. And usually I could get used to it quite quickly, but I am willing to admit that this year everything is different, and for me this is also a new experience.
Before every race I tune in to fight for the win, strive for it, prepare to fight for it, and my motivation doesn’t change. But for now you have to be patient, stay calm, because behind the wheel of F1-75 I haven’t mastered it 100% yet, so you just have to show good results.
However, my approach has changed somewhat in that after several retirements I am already well behind the championship leader, so I don’t consider myself a contender for the title. It’s a shame, but now I’m trying not to think about the championship. Also because I didn’t feel comfortable driving a car, and I couldn’t really fight for poles and wins.
Maybe it was also because I wanted to win too many qualifying and races and made mistakes, also because of this. Moreover, restraint has always been my strength, I knew how to wait for the right moment and I have always spent the second half of the championships very well.
I think I will need patience again this year, I have to wait until I am more comfortable behind the wheel of F1-75 and then attack at full power.
