In an interview with the New York Times, Fernando Alonso spoke about the second half of his Formula 1 career…
Fernando Alonso: “When I left Formula 1 in 2018, my career was at a low point. I knew I was still fast and competitive, but people didn’t see it. Now I’m demonstrating my speed again, and winning the Grand Prix or fighting for the championship would make the return story even more beautiful.
I don’t know when I will end my career, but now I feel fresh and energized to fight. Of course I will stop one day. I can’t imagine what the reason would be. Maybe there will be too many races or I want an easier life. But now it’s not even close. I perform well and feel happy behind the wheel.
I am aware of my age and I understand that I will not be in Formula 1 in ten years, so I try to have the maximum fun, to enjoy what is happening. Every time I give my best behind the wheel and give all my strength to the team.
What would you like to achieve? The championship title would be a welcome achievement, given that I was champion for a long time last time. That’s my goal. I want to be remembered as a rider who has performed at the highest level for many years.
My biggest dream is to have a family and children. My lifestyle has not made it possible to start a family yet, but after finishing my racing career I will find my happiness in my family and children.”
