Fallows: We also need to take the next step

Aston Martin technical director Dan Fallows joined the team from Red Bull Racing and decided to change the design last year, taking his former team’s design as a basis – as the slow Aston Martin car became fast this year.

Ferrari and Mercedes have only talked about changing the chassis concept this season, but should add more soon. Fallows believes his team should also take the next step in response.

Dan Fallows: “Once you have decided on the overall aerodynamic concept, it is very difficult to make fundamental changes. And if you decide to make such changes, you must be completely sure that they will work.

There are conceptual differences between Aston Martin, Ferrari and Mercedes, but in terms of speed our cars are now very close. In such a situation, it is not easy to recognize the chosen concept as incorrect and make a decision to change it. It will be interesting to see how the opponents do.

We started a long time ago with the current concept, but at Red Bull it started even earlier. On the other hand, this means that we can take bigger steps. We took such a step by building this machine. At the moment the AMR23 has no significant shortcomings, but to compete with Ferrari and Mercedes, which will certainly add, you need to take the next step.

We want to start developing the 2024 car as early as possible, but it will be the successor to the current one, so refinement cannot be sacrificed. At the same time, we expect to see the same serious progress with the new car as with this year’s car.
