None of the Ferrari cars made it to the finish in Baku, but Haas and Alfa Romeo racers also retired. Mattia Binotto, the head of the Scuderia, is not sure if the reasons for the meetings are the same, but promised to analyze everything in detail†
Q: There is no doubt that based on the team you will analyze in detail the causes of the problems because today not only did we witness the retirement of Charles Leclerc, but your customer teams also had problems. You are a nanny – how much does this situation bother you?
Mattia Binotto: Of course it is worrisome. Even before the race in Baku, we said that equipment reliability is a factor no less important than efficiency. In preparation for the season, our team has made significant progress with the car, but unfortunately the F1-75 is not yet completely reliable, which means we have to keep working to get stronger in the future.
Q: If you are concerned about the reliability factor, does it mean you are preparing some solutions that will improve the engine?
Mattia Binotto: I think we must first fully understand the causes of what happened today. Not all problems are the same and some can be solved very quickly. But to be honest, I don’t know yet, and it will take some time to analyze everything. So I’m not ready to answer yet.
Q: Do you think Charles’s problems were different from those that caused him to retire in Barcelona? And two Ferraris retired for different reasons?
Mattia Binotto: Yes, I don’t think they are related. Carlos stopped with hydraulic problems, which did not happen with Charles’ car in Barcelona. But we have to be patient and deal with everything calmly.
Q: And what about the issues that caused Guanyu Zhou and Kevin Magnussen to retire today because their cars also have Ferrari power plants?
Mattia Binotto: I suppose all this needs to be analyzed as well, but I think one of these meetings has nothing to do with the components that Ferrari provides. But whatever happens with customer teams, we get useful technical information from them because we work with them not so much for commercial reasons, because we don’t earn much from it, but because of feedback. Therefore, we will certainly study everything that happened to the cars of Alfa Romeo and Haas, no less carefully than what happened to our cars.
