Ronan Le Lallou works for the Automobile Club de Monaco and is responsible for the preparation of the famous city circuit. Before the Formula 1 race, he spoke about how this work is organized and the difficulties involved.
Ronan Le Lallou: “Preparing an urban circuit is quite a difficult task, especially in Monaco. We start work six weeks before the race and the aim is to ensure that all this affects the daily life of the Principality as little as possible, although this is not always achieved.
It all starts from the central part of the track, where the race director and the pit complex are located, and this part of the work does not interfere with people. But then we start installing fences, barriers, fenders, and this already creates a number of obstacles for everyone.
While organizing the Monaco Grand Prix, it is quite difficult to clearly plan and coordinate the actions of all units. In total, about 200 people and 70 different companies are involved in the work, which is quite a large group of people. However, the uninitiated are unaware that disassembling anything related to racing is much more difficult than assembling it.
The amount of work is basically the same, only it has to be done in just three weeks. The operation of dismantling the building of the race directorate or the complex of boxes requires exactly the same efforts as its construction, since all these elements will be in the warehouse for the next eight months and they must be in complete integrity and safety.
The total weight of the structures that make up one building is 60 tons, and we have 12 such buildings.
Unlike other city circuits, ours is open to traffic at night, but in the morning, when we close it again, it must immediately comply with all FIA standards, and that complicates everything.”
