Aston Martin F1 chief engineer Luca Furbatto cited Lance Stroll’s contribution to the team’s work as one of the key factors influencing progress.
Stroll joined from Williams in 2019, when it was still called Racing Point, and has since been teammates with veteran professionals like Sergio Perez, Sebastian Vettel and now Fernando Alonso.
And although the two-time world champion behind the wheel of the AMR23 car is clearly more successful and has already been on the podium four times, Furbatto speaks highly of the Canadian racer.
“Lance has been a factor of continuity in recent years, and this is very important,” he shared in an interview with RacingNews365. – Of course, Sebastian was with us for two seasons and now Fernando is working with the team, but in fact Lance provides continuity.
In many ways he can be considered a very good racer. The feedback he gives is quite similar to that of Sebastian and this year Alonso.
When it comes to running gear, Lance’s scores are key to understanding whether we got it right or not.”
At the start of the season, Stroll was not in great physical shape, as shortly before he had injured both hands and his right leg, which did not prevent him from finishing 8th in qualifying in Bahrain and 6th in Saudi Arabia.
“When he was fastest in the first sector of the track in Jeddah, I was particularly impressed,” added Furbatto. “Although he was injured in both wrists and big toe, he showed how talented he is in that very fast sector with blind spots and we are very happy to have Lance on our team. By the way, if we talk about the balance of the car, then perhaps in its preferences it is closer to Fernando than to Sebastian.
