Nico Hulkenberg: The race in Monaco is different

The last time Nico Hulkenberg performed in Monaco was in 2019. Despite such a break, the Haas rider is ready for the stage on the city track, which he calls one of his favourites.

Q: What does the Monaco Grand Prix mean to you?
Nico Hulkenberg: First of all I would like to emphasize that all our thoughts are with the people of Emilia-Romagna. Horrible images have been going around the world for the past week and I hope the region recovers from the disaster as soon as possible.

As for Monaco, this race is unlike any other. We travel to many special places like Miami, Melbourne, Las Vegas, Singapore and so on, but the rodeo in Monaco is a challenge on another level. Definitely one of my favorite races on the calendar.

Q: Qualifying in Monaco is as important as no other circuit. How do the team and rider work together during the session to avoid negative scenarios?
Nico Hulkenberg: Communication with the team is essential. To “survive” on this narrow circuit with no full-fledged straights, each team and its rider must always be ready for unforeseen situations.

Q: The stage in Monaco is the only one in the season where you can sleep in your bed. Does it make the preparation easier, or does it rather give you a strange feeling when you just have to leave the house to participate in the race?
Nico Hulkenberg: This year I will be driving my tenth Monaco Grand Prix. It’s nice to wake up in your own bed and go to the track in the morning on a scooter or bicycle. I also like the time before the stage, when the preparation starts and it feels like Formula 1 is coming to town.
