Alfa Romeo drivers Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou did not score any points in the previous two races. The team expects that the novelties prepared for the Monaco Grand Prix will allow them to break the failed streak and finish in the top ten this weekend.
Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director of the Sauber Group and spokesperson for the Alfa Romeo F1 Team: “The cancellation of the Imola Grand Prix was the right decision given the difficult situation in the Emilia-Romagna region. Our thoughts are with those affected and those struggling with the impact of the floods – we are ready to join Formula 1 and do our part to help.
The whole team was looking forward to the race in Imola, so now we are even more motivated for the stage in Monaco. In fact, this weekend is the first European race of the season where we will be bringing new items originally prepared for Imola.
With its iconic corners and environments, the Monaco Grand Prix is without a doubt the most famous Formula 1 race that everyone wants to excel at. In the streets of the Principality, precision and attention to detail are rewarded even more than usual. At the beginning of the month, we showed progress in Miami, which we will build on on Friday.
Valttery Bottas: “As much as we wanted to race, canceling the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was the right decision. I express my condolences and support for those affected and look forward to returning in the future.
The stage in Monaco needs no introduction. This is a very special Grand Prix and also homemade for me – I’m glad I can sleep in my bed! I am very motivated to perform well and we will do our best for that.
The car’s pace on one fast lap in Miami was higher than on previous stages and this weekend will be critical on the track, where qualifying is important.
We still have a lot of work to do and after Miami the team continued to work on improving the car. We look forward to further progress and to earn more points.”
Guanyu Zhou: “There were simply no conditions for the race and safety always had to come first. I wish the victims of the flood a lot of strength. A few years ago I lived in Italy, and I have very pleasant memories of that time.
Now I’m looking forward to Monaco – everyone wants to succeed in this Grand Prix and every little thing can affect the result. In Miami we showed little progress and now we need to keep the momentum and improve.
The team was supposed to update the C43 at Imola, but now we’re going to put the new items on the car this weekend in Monaco. I hope they bring positive change and help you get back into the points.
