Esteban Ocon: The team is ready for Monaco

The sixth round of the Formula 1 season was due to take place in Imola, but had to be canceled due to flooding. On the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix, Alpine driver Esteban Ocon addressed the Italian fans and spoke about the team’s expectations for the weekend ahead.

Question: What can you say to the Italian fans and the people of Emilia-Romagna?
Esteban Ocon: First of all, my thoughts are with everyone in Emilia-Romagna. The images of devastation from the region are horrific and we all hope that things will soon change for the better. I lived in those places for a long time as a child, so it pains me to see what people go through. All attention from the rescue services must be focused on the situation that has arisen, so I fully understand and accept Formula 1’s decision not to race.

We will miss the unique atmosphere created by the tifosi, but this year we will see them again in Monza. Hopefully we will return to Imola in the future.

Question: What result can be expected from the team in Monaco after a good performance in Miami?
Esteban Ocon: Although our thoughts remain in Emilia-Romagna, all attention is on Monaco. Just like in Miami, you have to make sure we have a smooth weekend and earn points.

This year the team had some disappointing weekends, so now we are looking forward to better results. We want to get back to where we need to be and show the pace at which we can compete with some of the top teams.

Monaco always has exciting weekends, this is one of the highlights of the season, so we will try to please the fans with a good show.

Q: What do you think of the legendary circuit in Monaco?
Esteban Ocon: Personally, I’m looking forward to driving this famous city circuit and seeing what our car can do on the streets of Monte Carlo. The track is unique – the shortest on the calendar, narrow with sharp turns, and only a small portion of the circle drives riders to the ground with the throttle.

Usually the race is spectacular, the circuit has a rich history, so in Monaco you get a great experience. We are happy to be back behind the wheel after a two week break – the team is ready for Monaco.
