On the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix, Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll spoke about the characteristics of the city circuit.
Fernando Alonso: “In a sense, the race in Monaco is my home because I live close to the circuit! It’s great to be back behind the wheel after last week’s Grand Prix cancellation, but we hope everyone in Italy is safe and that the decision not to race was the right one.
Formula 1 drivers always look forward to Monaco. Nothing compares to performing on these streets. We are curious to see how the car will behave on a slow track like this. This weekend it is important to find the right settings and pick up the pace as quickly as possible.
Overtaking in Monaco is difficult, so grid position will be decisive for Sunday’s result. If we have a strong Saturday, we can look forward to a good result again next weekend.”
Lance walk: “We want to get back on track as soon as possible, but at the same time everyone in the team keeps thinking about the affected people in the Emilia-Romagna region. We love racing at Imola, but everyone’s safety must come first. We recognize that the right decision was made to cancel the race.
The Grand Prix of Monaco is a special stage, like no other. On this circuit it is important to give the best of yourself and maintain maximum concentration, because on each lap you have to attack more than on any other circuit on the calendar.
There are no long straight lines in Monaco – only narrow and winding streets, so there is no time for reflection – you have to trust your intuition. I have already said that I consider it a privilege to race on a track with such a rich history. I have many fond memories of the epic Monaco Grand Prix.”
