Le Mans: Tristan Vautier replaces Jacques Villeneuve at Vanwall

The Vanwall team refused Jacques Villeneuve’s services, so Tristan Vautier will take his place in the No. 4 team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Today it was announced that the 33-year-old Frenchman will become the new partner of Tom Dillman and Esteban Guerrieri in Colin Kolles’ team. The form of the 1997 world champion did not impress Vanwall, moreover, he crashed the car several times during the races.

At Sebring, the team finished 8th in class after colliding with a works Peugeot hypercar, but the Vanwall Vandervell 680 missed the finish in the next two laps. In Portmao, the car went off the track due to fire in the brakes when a Canadian was driving. And during the “6 Hours of Spa” an accident occurred, the participants of which were the same Villeneuve and Francesco Castellacci, an Italian racer who competes for Ferrari in the GTE Am class.

Vautier became champion of the American Indy Lights Series in 2013, then competed in IndyCar, GT and endurance racing before making his debut at Le Mans in 2022. He then drove the sports prototype of the ARC Bratislava team and, together with his teammates, took 26th place in the overall standings.

Villeneuve formally remains on Vanwall’s list for the July round at Monza, but the team is already in talks with potential candidates who could replace him in the 6-hour race at the classic Italian circuit.
