We have already quoted the words of Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, who is dissatisfied with Nick de Vries’ results in the first races of the season. The Austrian hinted that if Nick doesn’t get better, he could lose his place in AlphaTauri.
De Vries responded to Marco’s words in Monaco and admitted that he made many mistakes, but Nick does not believe his place in the team is in danger.
Nick de Vries: “Such words do not shock me, because this is the normal situation in our industry. This has always been the case with Red Bull and Formula 1. I honestly believe that my situation is no different now than at the start of the season. The rider must always show results and I have shown that throughout my career.
The racer has to fight constantly to survive. You have to constantly get results to make your career successful. So it’s normal, it’s always been like this.
I believe I am too mistaken, and I openly admit it. But at the same time I showed a high pace, which gives me confidence, but I was not always able to put all the components together. I have speed, but I make too many mistakes, which leads to such results.
I now have a kind of learning process – sometimes everything works, sometimes something doesn’t work. We are all human and we all make mistakes, but we keep moving forward.”
