Aston Martin vehicles will be powered by Honda from 2026. Team driver Fernando Alonso doesn’t know if he will be driving in Formula 1 in three years’ time, but if he does then the partnership with Honda will not be a problem for him.
Fernando Alonso: “I don’t know what I’m going to do in 2026. I’d be lying if I said I already knew everything. Right now I feel fresh, motivated and still fast. If I keep enjoying racing, I want to I like to keep participating.
I know I’ll wake up one morning and find myself not feeling motivated or wanting to constantly travel the world anymore. Maybe I feel like I’m out of speed – then I’ll be the first to raise my hands and say it’s time to go. There is still a lot of time until 2026, so we’ll see.
Now I am fully focused on Monaco, because we are waiting for an important weekend. I hope we will take the next step forward and fight for better results.
I have no problem driving a Honda powered car again. Last time, in 2015, 2016 and 2017, our collaboration was unsuccessful. For some of my teammates, like Stoffel Vandorn, who came after winning Formula 2, the cooperation was even worse, because he wasn’t ready for this. But Honda has proven that they now have a competitive engine.
They won the title in 2021 and 2022 and are very likely champions in 2023. Now they have a good engine and after the transition to the new regulations, a very interesting project awaits us.”
