Vowles: Hamilton performs in Montreal

Mercedes lead race engineer James Vowles summarized the results of the Baku stage and confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will start in Montreal…

James Vowles: “I am pleased to report that Lewis was on base this morning, we spent several hours together, everything is fine with him, he will return to the wheel in Montreal. Hamilton is a great athlete who can get the most out of himself and the machine. This is what makes Formula 1 drivers exceptional.

In this case, we have gone too far with our car, which makes the riders feel serious discomfort and we can’t leave everything as it is. It’s not just our riders who suffer. There are many comments in the press from pilots of other teams experiencing pain and discomfort. And now it’s our responsibility to make sure this doesn’t happen.

We have made some progress in the fight against the build-up. Outwardly, everything looks the same as before, but there is a certain difference. As a result of solving the first problem, we managed to lower the height of the suspension, but another came up – now the car hits the track with the bottom, causing the buildup you see. And the more bumpy the track, the bigger it is, which hit Baku.

We still have a long way to go to get back to the lead, but you’ll see how we progress.”
