In the second practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso showed the fourth fastest time and lost 0.220 seconds to the leader of the session, Max Verstappen. The Aston Martin driver is happy with the car and expects to compete for high places at the start. His partner Lance Stroll showed the eleventh result.
Fernando Alonso (4th): “Today we managed to do a lot of laps and find out how our car behaves in Monaco. It is important to find the rhythm at the beginning of the weekend and avoid any problems. In both sessions the car was quick and easy to drive, which helps on this track.
There will be a lot of ups and downs for everyone this season so we have to be ready to push every weekend. In some weekends we will be faster than the competition, in some weekends the situation may be different, but I am looking forward to qualifying tomorrow.”
Lance walk (11th): “In today’s practice, every lap counted. On such a short course it is difficult to collect a circle, but we managed to work hard and learn a lot. The AMR23 looks competitive in Monaco – it handles well, so tonight we’ll focus on the final adjustments.
Throughout the year the battle is very tight, so in qualifying it is crucial to get everything right. In the evening the team will continue working on the car, we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”
