Mercedes brought an updated car to Monaco, which they planned to test at Imola, but the stage was cancelled. Despite all the limitations of the city circuit in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton is happy with the new products.
Lewis Hamilton (6e): “We have collected a lot of data. Monaco is not the kind of track where it is worth testing, but the car behaved well. It’s a shame we were further away from the leaders in the final standings than I would have liked, but I felt progress – we clearly added! Now you need to get more out of the updated machine to take the next step.
It is now clear to me what we are missing. We will discuss this in the evening and decide tomorrow how to proceed.”
George Russell (12th): “In the evening we will think about how we can get more out of rubber on Saturday. The car is OK, we always don’t fully exploit its potential in qualifying, but add on Sunday. I would like to reverse this trend. I don’t expect an easy day on Saturday, but we will do our best. Let’s see what eventually happens.
The circuit in Monaco is so unique that it is impossible to judge the novelties here. We will be working with them next weekend in Barcelona and here we will try to make the best of what we have.
The most important part of this weekend is of course qualifying, and it was on Saturday that we had the most problems in the last year and a half. Now we have to deal with them.”
