All 10 teams prepared novelties for Monaco

The track in Monaco requires maximum downforce and the teams traditionally prepare certain technical solutions for this stage of the championship to solve this problem.

This year the situation is somewhat unusual as a number of teams were due to showcase their new products in Imola, but the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was cancelled, postponing the “premiere showing” of these improvements to Monaco. At the same time, everyone understands that on a narrow and slow city road it will not be possible to fully test the new items in any case, but this is another question.

Red Bull races

The RB19 has a redesigned rear wing that generates downforce more efficiently at relatively low speeds.

The fairings of the front wishbones have also been changed, as the steering wheels in Monaco must turn at a greater angle.

Ferrari

On Scuderia cars, a number of parts of the rear of the car have been changed, including suspension fairings and brake ducts. Judging by the team’s comments, they were going to test all this at Imola as part of the planned SF-23 modernization process.

The rear wing and additional rear wing with a slightly different configuration are specially designed for Monaco and provide more downforce in this part of the car.

Mercedes

Perhaps the longest list of new products from Mercedes, but this is to be expected, because at Imola an updated car with side pontoons of a more traditional shape should have been presented.

The changes affected the front suspension, it should be noted that the front mounting points of the upper wishbones of the front suspension have been moved higher.

This is not only intended to improve suspension efficiency, but should also affect how the elements affect the airflow around this part of the car. Furthermore, the power is directed to the side pontoons, where the radiators are located, which improves the efficiency of the cooling system.

The edges of the bottom became different, their configuration changed, and the intake part of the Venturi tunnels was also updated, but first of all, the shape of the side pontoons became different – now they are wide, like on other teams’ machines. The area at the rear of the car, referred to in technical jargon as a “Coca-Cola bottle”, has also become wider.

Alps

The fairings on the front wishbones and suspension pushrods have been improved in an effort to stabilize the flow to the venturi tunnels.

The side pontoons have become wider, and the channels that are located in the upper part and are designed to accelerate the airflow are deeper. In addition, this is accompanied by a change in the configuration of the edges of the bottom. The A523 also has a rear wing and an additional rear wing with a special configuration.

McLaren

In line with the new technical guideline, McLaren engineers have redesigned the front section of the Venturi tunnel bulkheads. On the end plates of the rear wing appeared something like small wings that affect the flow coming out of the diffuser. In general, the MCL60 has a rear wing and an additional rear wing with a special configuration designed for the Monaco podium.

Alfa Romeo

The lower section of the bonnet in the Coke bottle area has been widened, a measure the team says improves overall aerodynamic efficiency.

The underside of the car is completely new, the front part of the partitions of the Venturi tunnels has been changed accordingly and Alfa Romeo was initially going to test all this in Imola.

The fairings of the rear suspension elements have been updated and this has been done in conjunction with the introduction of new air ducts for the rear brakes. The C43 also received a special rear wing designed for Monaco, and the area through which the hot air from the cooling system exits has become wider.

Aston Martin

On the AMR23, the shape of the front brake ducts has been changed to match the changes made to the updated front wing. The air ducts of the rear brakes have also changed, as the rear suspension fairings have been modernised. The rear wing and the additional rear wing have a special configuration taking into account the specificities of the city circuit.

A modernized front wing appeared on the VF-23.

AlphaTauri

In Melbourne, the team presented a renewed bottom, which has now been further modernised: the walls of the Venturi tunnels have been changed, as has the back of the tunnels themselves.
The area of the floor in front of the rear wheels has also been changed, which improves the airflow characteristics around the diffuser. Also on the AT04 car is a special version of the rear wing and an additional rear wing designed for more downforce.

Willems

The team announced a number of changes, mainly related to the characteristics of the Monaco circuit, in particular the fairings of the front suspension have been adapted to a greater steering angle of the front wheels.
