On Saturday morning the track was in worse shape than the day before – on Friday evening it was opened to traffic and pedestrians. The teams continued with the program that had started the day before, with an emphasis on preparing for qualifying.
The session went smoothly, although there were a few incidents. Ocon’s car stopped in the tunnel due to problems with the power plant, but it was restarted – Esteban continued driving, returned to the pits and then took off again. Leclerc and Russell hit the barrier with no effect on the car.
In the 50th minute, the engineer asked Magnussen to stop immediately on the track due to problems with the power plant. Kevin stopped the car before turn eight, a virtual safety car mode was announced before his evacuation.
A few minutes later the session was halted by red flags – Hamilton crashed into the barrier in turn five, breaking the front suspension – and decided not to continue.
Max Verstappen set the fastest time with a lap time of 1:12.776.
