Sainz: Teams and FIA need to think about drivers

Due to the build problems, Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto called modern Formula 1 cars based on the concept of Ross Brown and Pat Symonds the worst in driver comfort of all formula series. Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz believes the FIA must take urgent action.

Carlos Sainz: “I am seriously bothered by this. In Baku it was very, very painful for me. It got to the point where during the pilot briefing we all looked at each other and said, “Something needs to be done about this.” This is normal for one race, but can we spend another ten years in the same vein? I doubt.

We have asked the FIA to study the matter so that they don’t listen to the teams, but to us – the ones who are feeling all these blows. And it is extremely important that the FIA takes action as soon as possible.

Probably the suspension design needs to be changed or something else. I’m sure if you ask two or three technicians in the paddock they will tell you what needs to be done to limit build-up. We just need the FIA to intervene as quickly as possible, otherwise the consequences will pile up.

Personally, it seems to me that with the current level of technology, it is completely unnecessary for us to put ourselves in conditions that threaten our health and career. I don’t think this is necessary, that everyone, including the teams, should think about the riders first.
