Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner happy with Max Verstappen’s pole position and regrets Sergio Pérez’s crash…
Christian Horner: “It was one of Max’s best laps in qualifying. Approaching the Basin, he was 0.2 seconds behind Fernando, but in the final sector, after touching the barrier from both sides, he was able to maintain speed and regain the gap.
I have mixed feelings. I’m really happy with Max’s performance, but I regret Perez’s misfortune – he dropped out too early. I can only assume that he was distracted by a right-hand Alpine, causing him to make a mistake in the first corner.
In qualifying in Monaco, almost everything depends on the skill of the driver, the speed of the car is not of great importance here. And Max managed to achieve the desired result.
Fernando and Max respect each other. They are very similar. They are made of the same material and both are great riders. They both want to win this race and I’m sure Fernando sees the opportunity and knows how important tomorrow’s start is. The first 500 meters can be decisive for the winner of this Grand Prix.
I think Perez will have to change the chassis. A few years ago, Max started behind this and was able to score points. That will be the challenge for Sergio tomorrow.”
