In Monaco, Yuki Tsunoda reached the qualifying final for the second time this season, where he showed the ninth fastest time. For his teammate Nick de Vries, the qualifications turned out to be the best of 2023 – the AlphaTauri rider set the twelfth fastest time.
Yuki Tsunoda (9th): “My congratulations to the team. We had a lot of problems in yesterday’s training, but today we made a big step forward. At the very beginning of the third session I felt positive changes in the behavior of the car and we were able to add more for qualifying. The mechanics and engineers did a great job.
I was confident in the car, especially on the last attempt in the first part of qualifying. I had fun and for the first time I reached the final of qualifying in Monaco, which is great. I’m happy with my performance and I’m starting in the top ten, so tomorrow I’ll do my best to earn points.”
Nick deVries (12th): “Tough session, and even before the start of the first part we knew there would be traffic problems. Of course you always want more, but we already have a good weekend. If the race can repeat the pace we are showing today, then the result of the weekend can be considered good. Track conditions changed noticeably during the session, and the team did a great job adding such conditions steadily.
I’ve driven in Monaco before, but driving Formula 1 is on a different level. I’m looking forward to tomorrow!”
