Esteban Ocon: I hit the wall, but we have a solid car!

Esteban Ocon qualified fourth in Monaco, but Charles Leclerc’s penalty, which lost three positions for blocking Lando Norris, saw Esteban start third. His teammate Pierre Gasly also reached the final, where he showed the seventh fastest time. Alpine expects to battle for the podium and two cars to score points in the race.

Esteban Ocon (4e): “This result was preceded by an enormous amount of work. I am very happy with the way we spent the weekend with the team. The car was difficult to drive in the first part, but I knew the track condition would improve and our pace would increase. I gave my best on the last lap – it worked out great.

In fact, on the last lap I hit the wall pretty hard, but luckily we have a strong enough car, so I was able to keep trying!

There is no doubt that I will try to fight for the podium in the race, but now I and the team have to realize the result we achieved today. I’m happy with the fourth fastest time, but let’s see what we can do tomorrow. I hope I have a good start and can fight ahead.

Today’s result will give us confidence after the difficulties the team has been facing recently. He proves that we do not give up and keep working hard.”

Pierre Gasley (7th): “I’m happy for the team – we had a great qualifying and made a big step forward compared to the stage in Miami. The fourth and seventh fastest times are a positive result, although I am a bit disappointed with my performance in the final. I think I could have done better, but if we evaluate the results objectively, the team achieved a positive result of the session.

We have a chance to earn a lot of points. We have an important race ahead of us, in which we have to recover from a not very successful performance in Miami and score points with two cars.
