Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner is urging Monaco Grand Prix organizers to consider reconfiguring the circuit to secure the future of the event.
Christian Horner: “The Monaco Grand Prix is a unique stage. If someone came up with and presented a circuit like that now, we would never race it.
We’re only here because it’s Monaco – because of the history, the heritage, the glamour. Monaco is an important and very valuable part of the calendar, it is always interesting to come here. All races score the same amount of points, but some stages have an added value that Monaco certainly has.
Yes, a lot has changed. Today’s boxes are bigger and more comfortable than the ones teams worked in ten or twenty years ago. The only thing that hasn’t changed much is the track itself, and the cars have gotten much bigger, so overtaking is almost impossible now.
I think for the sake of the long-term prospects of this stage, you have to figure something out. Nothing stands still forever, everything has to evolve. It would be great to consider the ideas of creating a real overtaking opportunity here by adapting the track to modern cars.”
