Wolff did not like how Hamilton’s W14 was evacuated

On Saturday, at the end of third free practice, Lewis Hamilton touched the car slightly on the barrier exiting turn five. The marshals involved in the evacuation of the seven-time world champion’s W14 hooked the car to a crane and lifted it high above the track, which the photographers immediately took advantage of and photographed the new floor in detail.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff did not like this method of evacuation, as the rivals now have details of the car’s technical characteristics.

“Whoever operated the crane must have worked for Cirque du Soleil before! joked Toto, commenting on the situation. – Frankly, the evacuation was poorly organized. The car was on the track, so it could be loaded onto a tow truck and not demonstrate its properties to the whole world. All this is not very optimal for us, to say the least.

Was Perez’s car evacuated in the same way? I haven’t seen it, but they’re all from Cirque du Soleil for sure! On the other hand, the marshals are doing their best and I don’t want to be the squad leader criticizing people for doing their job.”

However, chief race engineer Dave Robson believes that photos alone are not enough to copy the bottom: “It’s hard to understand anything from 2D photography – shadows and light bending make it almost impossible to understand anything. Photos like this don’t make copying any easier!”
