Yuki Tsunoda could have scored points in Monaco, but shortly before the finish his car suffered brake problems and the AlphaTauri driver dropped from ninth to 15th. Teammate Nick de Vries finished twelfth, his best result of the season.
Nick deVries (12th): “A very difficult race in difficult conditions. The first stint could have been better – in the last seven laps on Medium I suddenly lost a lot of speed and then it started to rain. Perhaps it was worth putting less pressure on Oscar Piastri at the beginning of the segment. Otherwise a good race.
The intermediate tires didn’t heat up in the first few laps, so they didn’t have any grip, but I managed to avoid problems. Overall I’m happy with my weekend as I didn’t make any mistakes in difficult conditions.
Nice to finish close to the top ten. The team worked great all weekend and we took the positions we should have taken. We will take all the positive things that happened this weekend to Barcelona.”
Yuki Tsunoda (15th): “Unpleasant result, because in the race I had good pace and controlled the situation, especially on a dry track. After the rain started, we switched from Medium to Intermediate tires at the perfect time – the team did a great job.
All weekend I had problems with the brakes, and in the rain they got worse. Until the end I felt like a passenger. Of course I am disappointed, as is the team, because today we were able to earn points. It is difficult to accept such a result, but there are areas where we need to improve. However, there were also positive moments this weekend. Now we have to rest and concentrate on Barcelona.”
