The race in Monaco was the third in a row in which Alfa Romeo did not earn any points. The team’s best result on the city track was 11th place for Valtteri Bottas. Finn dropped to fourteenth place in the individual standings, overtaking Oscar Piastri. His teammate Guanyu Zhou finished thirteenth.
Despite these results, the team is pleased with the speed of the car and believes that in the next stage in Barcelona, the new items brought to Monaco will add more.
Valttery Bottas (11th): “We had a confident race and probably got the maximum. Not bad if you manage to play four positions in Monaco. The only pity is that not all efforts are rewarded with points.
The rain helped a bit and caused chaos in the race. We made some important and correct decisions. It wasn’t easy, even on intermediate tyres, because the track was very wet in some areas and dry in others, but we were the first to decide to change tires and this is how we got the result.
The car drove better thanks to the new products we brought to the track. I hope they will allow us to add even more in Barcelona – on a faster circuit our car should run a little more efficiently. I look forward to the next stage.”
Guanyu Zhou (13th): “We had a good race in very difficult conditions. Taking into account the starting positions, we are satisfied with the progress made. We opted for an aggressive strategy and pitted on the first lap to race to the finish on hard tyres.
I showed a pretty good pace, gained back a few positions and then held off the rivals on fresher tyres. The rain set everything back – I had to pit again to cope with the difficult track conditions. In every corner there was the possibility of making a mistake, so I acted with extreme caution.
I ended up playing six positions, so it was fun. The most important thing is that we had a good race pace – this is a good sign before we start racing on other circuits and in different conditions.
