Sargent: Tire wear is the biggest problem

The Williams riders did not score any points in Monaco, but both made it to the finish. Alex Albon and Logan Sargent summarize the results of the sixth stage of the season.

Alex Albon (14th): “A boring but difficult race. The rain made it more interesting, but the rain didn’t affect our results and the track situation as I had hoped.

Many started on Hard tyres, which resulted in a kind of train on the track, but the Hard compound was much better than the Medium. In short, it was a race where everyone wanted to go fast as fast as possible. We tried to increase the length, but the Medium tires were heavily granulated. In the beginning I showed a good pace, but then the rubber overheated and it was difficult to do anything.

Logan Sargent (18th): “Definitely a difficult race. The start and the first ten laps went well, but then the Medium tires started to deteriorate. There was a flat tire a few laps after I switched to Hard, so I had to go back to the pits for soft tires and try to get a long stretch on them, which wasn’t very ideal.

As soon as it started to rain, we thought about switching to intermediate tyres. I have locked the wheels on a wet track several times – I need to figure out how to drive in such conditions. Not the best day, but we can learn a lot.

The positive results include the fact that I drove the car in the rain, and now I know what it’s like. At times everything went well, but the biggest problem in the race was a strong relegation. It would be interesting to run a segment on Hard tires, but unfortunately a puncture was avoided.

On Tuesday I will be on the simulator to prepare for Barcelona. I like the Spanish circuit, I know it well, so I expect to do better.”
