Russell was angry that he had missed his chance to make it onto the podium

Lewis Hamilton is quite happy with his result and his teammate, George Russell, is upset and blames himself for the mistake he made, which he believes has caused him to miss the chance to climb the podium.

Lewis Hamilton (4th): “I am very satisfied, because we are moving forward. Before the start of the weekend I didn’t know what to expect, but I finished fourth and the team earned a lot of points.

Thanks to everyone who works on the basis of Mercedes, for preparing technical innovations for us. We got to the finish, in front of Ferrari, and the points obtained are very important.

Next week we race in Barcelona, which is the circuit that suits us best, because Monaco was not easy to really test the performance of the car. But it seems that the suspension setup was too stiff, and on a rough track that was very noticeable.

In some ways the behavior of the car has changed for the better, but I don’t know yet how it will perform next week. However, I am sure that our machine will be even more efficient in a week.”

George Russell (5th): “Today it was certainly possible to fight for third place. But as far as I know, the episode with my mistake wasn’t televised and I was driving for Esteban Ocon and for Lewis, because I pitted one less.

I went straight from hard to intermediate and finished fifth behind the two Ferrari drivers who were still on slicks, so it was actually third. But when I saw the yellow flags, I slowed down, and when I lightly pressed the brake pedal, I just locked up the wheels.

This will be a lesson for me: as soon as you lose concentration, you immediately make mistakes. I am very upset, because if this mistake had not been made, third place was almost guaranteed.
